Frequently Asked Questions

Q. “Why Network in your job search?”

A.  Because anywhere from 36-85% of jobs – depending upon industry and region – are found via networking. (It’s 3 to 12 times more successful than job fairs and online searches combined!

Q. “Has this ALWAYS been true in job searching?”

A. Yes, but not to this extent. We live in a LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter era. Additionally, employers are sensitized to internal employee recommendations. With some positions, many employers no longer advertise or openly post open positions. Many vacancies – or about-to-become open positions – are discovered only or primarily through word-of-mouth.

Q. “Why network in Christ?”

A. A diversity-within-unity approach reflects who our God is. Perhaps, Solomon said it best:

Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor. If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Though one may be overpowered,  two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, 12)   We are to “..encourage one another and build each other up..” 1 Thes 5:11

Q.“What’s distinctive about Networking in Christ?”

A. We seek to practice New Testament “one anothers.” (Bear one another’s burdens, encourage one another, edify one another, etc.) NIC’s founding vision was fleshed out based upon the early Church maxim“it is more blessed to give than to receive” – a theme so important early leaders stressed it three times in the book of Acts (2:45; 4:34-35; 20:35)

Jesus Christ exercised a certain economy. He didn’t always go out of His way to heal and restore. Often, it occurred as He was going along. Likewise, as we “job hunt,” can’t we love our neighbors as ourselves by keeping in mind other job-searchers’ targets? Networking in Christ features multiple business chapters and encourages cross-chapter interaction. Available Talent members can attend business chapter meetings, giving up to three mini-testimonies about your work experience and job hunt focus. Through a synergy between these chapters, business members are encouraged to fill open positions by accessing people within these latter chapters. “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. (Galatians 6:10)

“Man finds nothing so intolerable as to be in a state of absolute rest, without exercising any passions, being unemployed, having no diversion, and living without any effort. It is then that he thinks he faces emptiness, loneliness, a sense of inadequacy, feeling dependent, helpless, and living a meaningless life. Then there wells up from the depths of his being a sense of boredom, pessimism, depression, frustration, resentment, and despair.”  (17th century Christian writer Blaise Pascal, Pensees, as cited in The Mind on Fire, pp. 73-74, Multnomah, 1989)

Circumstantial Realities

Distinctive NIC Objectives

“…failures in career advancement, collapse of a profession…these break up our human circles of sufficiency. They may leave us unconnected to others at levels of our soul where lack of nourishment from deep connections with others means spiritual starvation and loss of wholeness in our every dimension.” (Dallas Willard, Renovation of the Heart, p. 181, NavPress, 2002)

NIC seeks to bring salt and light to marketplace ministry – equipping, strengthening and serving the Body of Christ through marketplace connections.

“It is of no use to pray for the old days; stand square where you are and make the present better than any past has been. Base all on your relationship to God and go forward, and presently you will find that what is emerging is infinitely better than the past ever was. The present excels the past because we have the wealth of the past to go on.”  (Oswald Chambers, Shade of His Hand, as cited in Oswald Chambers Publications, 2008)

Pursuit of professional excellence  This includes not only on the job, but between jobs as well! (We seek to assist available talent, underutilized talent, and those considering or undergoing career transitions.)

Simply put, you’re not done. We’re not done. “I finished the work you gave me” were Jesus’ words to His Father (John 17:4). God, like the vision He had for His Son, also gives us work to finish. The Holy Spirit is the Executor (Acts 13:2) of work under the umbrella of Jesus Christ, who serves as Head of the Body.

As Christians we want to extend a helping hand to those seeking employment. This is done through no-cost membership, weekly networking meetings and occasional low-cost training events.

There is no cost to become a part of a Networking In Christ Available Talent Chapter. Chapter participants gather together weekly, usually at a church, for approximately 90 minutes, to pray for one another, encourage one another and share job leads.

When in the job market, members will probably come across employment opportunities that are not a good fit for them, but may be a good fit for another member of their Available Talent Chapter.

It is our fervent prayer that whenever one of our Business Referral Chapter members or any Christian, has a job opening, the first place they will look is to the resumes of our Available Talent Chapter members.

Member listings below are categorized by Area of Service, then the member's name, then a link to the member's resume.
